When you click on a Details-panel text field (Name, Description, Author, etc.) the Details Panel enters text editing mode. The text editing keys like Insert, Delete, End, PageUp then operate much as in Windows.

Editing large portions of text: When in text edit mode, press Shift+F2 and a new text editing panel will appear that makes it easier to edit a larger body of text and see the effect.

Insert When you are in the Topic Center and not editing text, Insert makes a new occurrence. Initially it will be fileless, but a file can be added to it.

When you are in the Map or 'Scape and not editing text, Insert makes a new topic. (Shift+Insert also makes a topic, but it defaults to parent).

While editing text, Insert has no effect (text editing in Topicscape is always in Insert mode, there is no 'OVR' or overwrite mode)

Delete When one or more occurrences in the Topic Center are selected - deletes those occurrences.

When a topic is selected and single-deletes are permitted by Options set - deletes that topic.

While editing text, Delete deletes the character after the text insertion cursor.

Shift+Delete Effective only when a topic is selected - deletes that topic and its children and all descendants.
Page Up When an occurrence in the Topic Center is selected, Page Up moves the selection to the top of the occurrences visible on the screen. If there are more, and you press it again it moves the selection up again by the number of lines on the screen at that time, or to the topmost item, whichever comes first.

While editing text, Page Up moves up to the top of the text (to the same character position in the line) and removes any highlight.

When in the Map or 'Scape, Page Up causes zooming or flying depending on the flight control mode chosen.

Page Down When an occurrence in the Topic Center is selected, Page Down moves the selection to the end of the occurrences visible on the screen. If there are more, and you press it again it moves the selection down again by the number of lines on the screen at that time, or to the last item, whichever comes first.

While editing text, Page Down moves down to the bottom of the text (to the same character position in the line) and removes any highlight.

When in the Map or 'Scape, Page Down causes zooming or flying depending on the flight control mode chosen.

Enter When an occurrence in the Topic Center is selected, Enter opens the occurrence's file.

When in the Map or 'Scape and a topic is selected, Enter takes you to the Topic Center of the selected topic.

While editing text, Enter confirms text changes (text entry mode finishes and the change is committed, though it can be undone with Ctrl+Z or the Undo menu item (see Menus on the main menu bar).

Ctrl+Enter While editing text, Ctrl+Enter will start a new line in the text.

Pressing Esc when editing text in this new panel will undo the text changes just made, as it does with editing text in other panels.

Tab When in the Map or 'Scape and a topic is selected, Tab moves the selection to the next topic.

While editing text, Tab moves from one user editable field to the next in the details panel.

Shift+Tab When in the Map or 'Scape and a topic is selected, Shift+Tab moves the selection to the previous topic.

While editing text moves from one user editable field to the previous one in the details panel.

End While in the Topic Center, if an occurrence is selected, the selection will move to the last occurrence in that topic. If no occurrence is selected, it will take you to the Hit and History Lists viewing point, whether you are in the Map or 'Scape or the Topic Center. This is a very useful shortcut.

While editing text, End sends the text insertion cursor to the right-hand end of the line and removes any highlight.

Shift+End While in the Topic Center with an occurrence selected, the selection will be extended from the currently-selected item to the last occurrence in that topic. If no occurrence is selected, it will quickly show more of the file list by jumping right. This is a shortcut - you can achieve the same affect by holding down the right arrow cursor key.

When in the Map, this key-combination takes your viewing position to the whole-Map view.

When in the 'Scape, this key-combination takes your viewing position to the Birds-eye view.

When editing text, pressing Shift+End extends any highlight to end of line but if no text is highlighted, it makes a highlight from the cursor to the end of the line. It also places the cursor at the end position.

Home, Shift+Home,
Shift+Page Up and
Shift+Page Down
When at least one occurrence is selected, all of these work in the occurrences list more or less as they do in MS Windows Explorer.

However, when editing text, they behave as follows:

Home sends the text insertion cursor to the beginning of the line and removes any highlight.
Shift+Home extends any highlight to the beginning of the line but if the text is not highlighted, it makes a highlight from the cursor point to the beginning of the line. It also places the cursor at the start of the line.
Shift+Page Up when the text field is not highlighted sends the text insertion cursor to the top line and highlight from the original cursor position to there. If there was some text already highlighted, it extends that selection.
Shift+Page Down key when the text field is not highlighted sends the text insertion cursor to the bottom line and highlights from the original cursor position to there. If there was some text already highlighted, it extends that.
Ctrl+A When editing text: "Select all". Select all in certain lists like the Topic Center's occurrences list and Pending Tray items.
Ctrl+- Insert a soft hyphen (editing topic names in Details Panel only).
