Topicscape 1.0 has been replaced by a simpler Topicscape Lite and a full-featured Topicscape Pro

What was new, 3D Topicscape 1.05 1/08/2007

  • A problem with running Topicscape when the My Topicscapes folder or a Topicscape file contained an accented letter or other character which is not a plain roman letter (a to z) has been fixed. Examples that would cause problems with earlier versions are:
    • "C:\Documents and Settings\Renée\My Topicscapes" or
    • a Topicscape called "fünf große Ideen.3DT"

  • The demonstration introduced in 1.03 was extended to include an introduction to many common tasks and how to achieve them in Topicscape.

  • To help new users, a panel giving a quick guide to 3D flight now appears in the center of the 'Scape window when you first install and start Topicscape. You will see this each time you start Topicscape until you click on the "don't show" checkbox at the bottom-left of the panel. This panel shows you how to fly around the landscape ('Scape) in Topicscape, and it does so with a brief demonstration that highlights the active keys. This demonstration loops until you press the Stop button. Then, after a few seconds, the panel will autohide to the right. To see it again, hover the cursor over the blue strip that remains in view or press the Show button. To remove the panel for this run, press the Close button.

If you would like the panel to appear again once you have clicked the "Don't show this again" checkbox, you can go to Tools | Options | User Preferences | Miscellaneous Operations and uncheck "Hide Quick guide to 3D flight".

What was new, 3D Topicscape 1.02 6/19/2006

  • A memory leak was fixed in a bug-fix version released on 7/7/2006
  • Certain file types are now handled properly when you drag a favicon to Topicscape or the Topicscape Box. This applies to Acrobat files (.pdf), text files (.txt), MS Word files (.doc), MS Excel files (.xls) and MS PowerPoint files (.ppt). Instead of asking if you want to save them as MHT (which failed anyway), they now offer and save as the correct type. This change has been applied both to Topicscape itself and the Topicscape Box.
  • At the suggestion of a user, we have now provided an option to save plain HTML pages as ".HTML" when the favicon is dragged into Topicscape or the Topicscape Box (left-button mouse drag) . If this function is used on more complex pages having images, sophisticated layout or using frames, it will save an HTML file that, when viewed in a browser, may have little relationship to the original. Certain URLs will cause this function to issue a message indicating that the file cannot be saved as plain HTML.
  • The keyboard shortcut and flying control panels now have a print function.
  • The installer has been improved to help users find the source of updated graphics drivers appropriate to their PC.
  • There have been minor bug fixes.
